Verizon chases Sprint with unlimited calls to any cellphone

Verizon has raised the stakes in cellular plans by quietly launching a test rollout of Unlimited Any Mobile. It follows Sprint’s Any Mobile and gives unlimited calling to any cellphone in the US, regardless of which network it uses or where it might be located. It also includes unlimited messaging.

The rates start at $60 for 450 minutes to landlines and $80 for 900 minutes. Families have picks of plans with 700 combined minutes for $100 up to 2,000 minutes for $130.

Unlimited Any Mobile is billed as a promo and is only available in some parts of Louisiana and Texas. The promo took effect July 30 and is due to end October 31. Verizon hasn’t said whether it plans to expand the promo to other areas or to continue the offer past the end date, but such deals are usually trials to see if the plans can be implemented nationwide.
